Advantage for Cats is a once a month topical flea treatment for cats and kittens.

Mode of Action:

Imidacloprid has a high affinity for the nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors in the post-synaptic region of the central nervous system (CNS). The ensuing inhibition of cholinergic transmission in insects results in paralysis and death.Indication/Description For the prevention and treatment of flea infestations on dogs&cats. Fleas on are killed within one day following treatment. One treatment prevents further flea infestation for four weeks. The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis.

Directions for Use

Part the hair on the animal's neck at the base of the skull until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze firmly several times to empty the contents directly onto the skin. Apply only to undamaged skin. Do not allow recently treated animals to groom each other.

Dosage

10 mg/ kg body weight topical solution (0.4 ml of the 10 % solution to cats under 9lbs (~4kg) body weight, 0.8 ml of the 10 % solution to cats over 9lbs of body weight.

Cautions

Advantage flea medication for cats is for external use on cats 8 weeks or older.

Consult a veterinarian before using on medicated animals, animals using this product with other pesticides and debilitated or aged animals.

Advantage is safe for use on pregnant and lactating queens.

This product causes eye irritation in humans and is harmful if swallowed. Avoid contact with the skin. Seek medical attention if swallowed. If on skin, wash with plenty of soap and water. If in eyes, flush with plenty of water.

Possible Side Effects

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets including Advantage for cats. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Advantage flea treatment for cats is bitter tasting and salivation may occasionally occur if the cat licks the application site immediately after treatment. This is not a sign of intoxication and disappears after a short time without treatment.
